You can give away opportunity; you cannot give away success! Each person's success must be a result of his/her own dreams, commitments, struggles, and victories. There is no place that this is more true than in the Healthy Business Opportunity. There are some common misperceptions that influence the way people often approach business, especially network marketing. Before looking closer at the ingredients of personal productivity, let's take some time to demythologize some common myths.
"You don't have to do anything; just sign up and the money starts rolling in!"
"This is an easy program - you just recruit and sit back and get rich on everyone else's efforts!"
"You don't have to do anything! The product sells itself!"
"This marketing plan is so hot! As soon as people see the wealth producing potential, the rest comes automatically!"
There are some basic problems with the idea that you can receive money without "earning" it by hard and smart work. We have to ask ourselves the questions, "Where does this money I am going to get come from? Did it belong to anyone before it came to me? Of course, the answer is 'yes.' "if it belonged to someone else, why are they willing to give it to me?"
There are three reasons people give up their hard earned money: First, to obtain a product or service. Second, to give to a charitable organization that is advancing goals that they identify with. And third, because they are being robbed! This means that if their money shows up in your hand, you got it one of two ways; either you provided a worthwhile product or service to them, or you stole it! (Unless, of course, you are a charitable organization.)
In the long run, it is counter productive when people present the idea that becoming a Distributor of a network marketing company is a "get rich quick opportunity." But it continues anyway. Even normally intelligent people fall for this line when they begin to think that they could be getting something for nothing. And though we are quick to recognize when other people have fallen for this shortcut to success, how many of us have also fallen victim to the idea of making a fast buck?
It is true that there is tremendous potential to benefit from the combined efforts of thousands of people in your AIM business. However, for most people that will never happen unless they first learn how to be productive themselves. It is from our experiences that we draw the encouragement, the wisdom, and the perseverance necessary to guide others. And sooner or later you will duplicate in others what you have become yourself; if you are inefficient, lazy, and confused about how to achieve success, you won't be able to offer any meaningful advice or support to others. Because of this, Personal Productivity is a very important part of the Healthy Business Opportunity.
More often than not, the real winners in life are not those with the most talent, or the highest education, or the wealthiest backgrounds. The real winners are those who take average talent and create above average results through hard work. By sheer determination they do the impossible, realizing that "if it is to be, it is up to me."
If hard work represents quantity in personal productivity, then smart work represents quality. A smart worker focuses on results, not just activities. A smart worker analyzes the results that various strategies produced and repeats the successful strategies over and over again. A smart worker recognizes his/her strengths and weaknesses and strives to take the greatest advantage possible of strengths instead of trying to become the "perfect" person by eliminating all weaknesses.
